José Cardoso

José Cardoso, Cuenca, Ecuador, 1984.

Graduated in graphic design, and self-taught illustrator, he ventures into film by means of stop motion, a technique he learned and developed in Catalonia, Spain, obtaining awards in Ecuador from the Ministry of Culture and the Animated Film Festival ANIMEC.

He travels to Mexico and South Africa where he works in fiction and documentary films as a member of Jiráfica Fábrica de Cuentos collective, films with which he is selected in international festivals such as the RAI Cartoons on the Bay Pulcinella Awards, Festival Internacional de Cinema Fantàstic de Catalunya, Encuentros Cinematográficos Cámara Lúcida, and Anim!arte Brasil, where his work is awarded.

By winning the promotion funds of the Ecuador Film Council, he undertakes this documentary feature film and develops it in different film creation laboratories in South America, receives support from the Festival de la Orquídea in Ecuador for its production, likewise, the film is awarded in WIP FAM DE TODOS film festival in Brazil and in BoliviaLab.

Lately, he has won the postproduction funds by the Ecuadorian Film Institute, with this, his documentary debut entitled Iwianch, the Devil Deer.

Graduado de diseño gráfico, y autodidacta de la ilustración, incursiona en el cine por medio del stop motion, técnica que aprende en Catalunya, España y la desarrolla obteniendo premios en Ecuador del Ministerio de Cultura y el Festival de Cine de Animación ANIMEC.

Viaja a México y Sudáfrica donde desarrolla cine de ficción y documental como parte del colectivo Jiráfica Fábrica de Cuentos, trabajo con el cual es seleccionado en festivales internacionales como el RAI Cartoons on the Bay Pulcinella Awards, Festival Internacional de Cinema Fantàstic de Catalunya, Encuentros Cinematográficos Cámara Lúcida, y Anim!arte Brasil, en donde se premia su trabajo.

Al ganar los fondos de fomento del Consejo de Cine del Ecuador, emprende el presente largometraje documental, lo desarrolla en los laboratorios de creación cinematográficos en Sudamérica del Festival de la Orquídea en Ecuador, recibiendo de este un apoyo para su producción, el WIP FAM DE TODOS en Brasil y el BoliviaLab, donde la obra es premiada y gana los fondos de fomento de finalización del Instituto de Cine del Ecuador, con esta, su opera prima documental, titulada Iwianch, el Diablo Venado.
