Physical film festival with submission categories including Best International Short Film and Best National Short Film.

Madeira Fantastic FilmFest. An international film festival and the first regional event dedicated to showing and promoting high-quality films in the fantastic, horror and thriller genres.

It is the festival that gives filmmakers from all over the world the opportunity to present their films to the Madeiran public. The festival places special emphasis on showing films by Madeiran filmmakers, with the aim of supporting and promoting the production of films made on the island.

It takes place in Funchal, the capital of Madeira Island in Portugal.

Rules & Eligibility

General Rules+

  1. You have a film and you are of age. No matter where you come from. The Festival is open to filmmakers from all over the world. You can submit as many films as you wish. It is not a problem if the films have been previously screened, shown on the Internet or in other festivals. The films may be in Portuguese, or in any other language with Portuguese subtitles. For the

  2. SELECTION process are not necessary Portuguese subtitles but if your film is selected we will ask you Portuguese subtitles for the public screening.

  3. The organisation can use pieces from the selected films (10% maximum) to promote them and the festival.

  4. Selected films of Madeira Fantastic FilmFest 2027 will be screened in Funchal, Madeira Island.

  5. Competition Categories: Best National Feature Film Best International Feature Film Best National Short Film Best Internacional Short Film + direct access to FANTAELX - Elche International Fantastic Film Festival (Spain) Best Animation Short Film Best Madeira Short Film Award Z (Audience Award) Running time: The short films may not run over 25 minutes.

  6. The feature films longer than 25 minutes.

  7. Format: All of the submitted films can participate, no matter the format.
